Generative Art Timeline · Chapter 10: On-Chain Era (2020s)
2021
Archetype by Kjetil Golid

Released on February 27, Golid’s Archetype was another early 2021 project that would later assume legendary status after a relatively quiet release on Art Blocks Curated. This long-form generative art project is rooted in the concept of rectangle partitioning. The algorithm divides and subdivides rectangles into intricate grids, creating varied compositions with six main properties: Framed, Shading, Scene, Palette, Coloring Strategy and Layout. With 600 minted pieces, Archetype shines in its display of the algorithm’s flexibility, producing consistently aesthetic works, from orderly grids to chaotic patterns.
