Cities on the Move: Contemporary Asian Art at the Turn of the 21st Century” in Vienna, Austria, was the first presentation of a traveling exhibition curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Hou Hanru. Emerging against the backdrop of East Asia’s rapid urbanization, the exhibition went beyond traditional art displays, incorporating visual art, architecture and film to depict the cultural ramifications of the region’s urban development. With over 150 contributors, it took place in a variety of global venues, including MoMA PS1 in New York and the Hayward Gallery in London. But the first iteration took place in Vienna.
