Crystal Towers by Matt DesLauriers is a data-driven generative algorithm created with Node.js, Three.js and Blender. The system takes data from skyscraper height distributions across major cities to create a series of unique black-and-white abstract compositions.

The work was posted in September on Behance by DesLauriers. A few weeks later, Tyler Hobbs posted the work on Reddit’s r/generative channel, crediting DesLauriers and encouraging other community to investigate his work, writing:

“Full gallery on behance, and other interesting info posted on his Twitter at @mattdesl.”

These two would go on to create some of the earliest work on Art Blocks in the following decade—and chapter.
