With the release of Leeson’s video chatbot, DiNA, the artist expanded upon Agent Ruby (1998–2002), her text-based chatbot exhibited at SFMOMA. DiNA, much like today’s Siri or Alexa, could be conversed with. Users could speak to DiNA through a microphone, to which she responded on a projected video screen in front. The piece also anticipates the work of contemporary AI artists like Huemin who have developed interactive AI devices like the Bright Moments Dream Machine.
