Drawing Operations saw Chung’s first exploration at the intersection of human and robotic collaboration in art, recalling the work of Harold Cohen yet asking modified questions. Partnering with a robotic arm named D.O.U.G._1 (Drawing Operations Unit: Generation_1), Chung created—and to this day creates with similar robots—synchronized drawing performances where the robot mimics her gestures in real-time through computer vision. This ongoing study investigates and questions the dynamics of human-robot interaction, blending behavioral empathy with artistic expression. Performed at venues such as The National Art Center in Tokyo and Redbull Studios in New York, Drawing Operations exemplifies the evolving dialogue between technology, authorship and AI.
