Emergence of Islamic Geometric Art

Islamic geometric patterns, emerged in the 8th century during the Islamic Golden Age, influenced by Greek, Roman and Sasanian Persian mathematics and ornament. An example of a generative process predating the computer, Islamic artists used these complex geometric shapes to create intricate, symmetrical designs that were used to decorate buildings, manuscripts, textiles, and other objects.
