Edmonds founded the Human Computer Interface Research Unit (HCIRU) at Leicester Polytechnic. The group helped Leicester Polytechnic become a significant center for computer art and Human-Computer Interaction research, attracting artists and researchers, including Stephen Scrivener and Dominic Boreham.
