In late October, fxhash launched in beta. In early November, they released Project 0, FXHASH Generative Logo, the long-form generative art platform on Tezos’s genesis. Fxhash capitalized on the energy of NFTs, the vibrant Tezos art community, a pre-existing model in Art Blocks and a healthy dose of criticism from artists of the Ethereum blockchain. At this time in 2021, Ethereum was still PoW and came with significant environmental concerns attached. Its popularity also meant relatively extraordinarily high fees, which served to exclude artists from developing economies. From the beginning, fxhash aimed to provide artists with intuitive tools to create and sell their long-form generative art while offering collectors and curators a secure marketplace to explore and acquire these unique digital works. The platform quickly became a central hub for the generative art community, enabling global artists to earn a living from their creations and fostering a vibrant ecosystem. Fxhash’s launch marked a significant step forward in this story and the accessibility of software-based generativity. The first project—meant to be more of a proof of concept—and token minted on fxhash were created by ciphrd (Baptiste Crespy). FXHASH Generative Logo served as the platform’s logo, symbolizing the blockchain-enabled algorithmic process that generates unique outputs from individual hashes.
