Inspired by the work of artists like Jared Tarbell, Anders Hoff, also known as inconvergent, started publishing his writing about “generative algorithms, programming and more” in 2015 and 2016. These important essays and explainers of various types of algorithm and generative process would prove an important source for open-source information about foundational generative processes: flocking, reaction-diffusion, CA, etc. This open-source explanatory work carries on the tradition of artist-educators like Jen Lowe and Patricio Gonzalez Vivo’s The Book of Shaders, Casey Reas and Lauren Lee McCarthy from Processing Foundation, Zach Lieberman from openFrameworks, Golan Levin, Toxi, Takawo and more in the decade of the 2010s.
