I’d rather be in a dark silence than by Operator

This Lumen "BCS Immersive Environment Award Winner 2021” showcases Operator’s concept-forward explorations of systems. The piece—by the experiential artist duo of Ania Catherine and Dejha Ti—blends fashion, technology and experiential art in a postmodern, mixed media demonstration of the digital. The centerpiece is a signal-blocking trench coat, lined with military-grade fabric to protect against digital surveillance. Unveiled at Factory Berlin, the project placed participants in an immersive multisensory environment. It examines themes of data privacy and surveillance through 360° projections, soundscapes, AR filters and poetry. Operator’s work challenges the pervasive reach of surveillance technologies, offering provocative commentary on privacy in the digital age. Their work invites the viewer to consider the systems that run their lives, striking at.
