Impressionist Movement Named

Critic Louis Leroy gave the Impressionist movement its name when he accused Claude Monet’s Impression, Sunrise of being merely a sketch or “impression.” This was meant as insult by Leroy as it implied that Monet’s work was not a finished painting.
