1937
László Moholy-Nagy founds the Chicago Institute of Design

Originally known as the New Bauhaus in Chicago, the school attracted former staff from the original Bauhaus such as György Kepes. The creation of an American Bauhaus played a role in tilting the global center of modernism to North America and carried on the original’s attempt to create a holistic aesthetic congruous with a modern industrial society.
