Generative Art Timeline · Chapter 6: Personal Computer Era (1980s)
1989
Magiciens de la Terre at the Centre Georges Pompidou

This important Centre Georges Pompidou exhibition highlighted global inequalities within the contemporary art world, with curator Jean-Hubert Martin featuring half the work of Western and half non-Western artists. The show highlights in our story mass-media art’s rise throughout the 1980s as well as the increasingly globalized and interconnected nature of art, which would only be accelerated in future decades as the Internet popularized.
