Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray create Rotary Glass Plates [Precision Optics]

An early example of Lumino-kinetic art, progenitor of electronic art, this piece consisted of painted glass plates rotating on an electric motor to create optical illusions. One of Ray’s and Duchamp’s experiments with machines and motion, Rotary Glass Plates shattered traditional notions that art had to be static. It also questioned optical perception, an important predecessor to the Op Art movement.
