Monogrid by Kim Asendorf

In October, Asendorf released one of the projects for which he is most identified: Monogrid on HEN. This collection of 256 unique real-time animations was minted on Tezos with each 1/1 edition exploring the dance of density, color and motion within a grid of rectangles.

The series demonstrated Asendorf’s own “pixel sorting” technique, which he introduced as open source in 2012 and has significantly impacted the creating coding community. The process involves “separating a vertical or horizontal line of pixels in an image and sorting their positions into a different order” with shaders.

Monogrid evolves from low-density pixel grids to complex—mind bending—with animations dynamically altering the visual structure infinitely and in real time. This layered experiential work highlights Asendorf’s mastery of real-time generative art.
