Generative Art Timeline · Chapter 6: Personal Computer Era (1980s)
1982
Montana by Jane Veeder

This two-dimensional video by pioneering video artist Jane Veeder was developed with ZGRASS with a custom-made language she derived from arcade and video games. This work was an important example of proto-demoscene and early video-game art, on top of being groundbreaking in its own regard. Veeder dearly regarded ZGRASS, the early graphics system, saying that it provided "real-time animation and real-time sound synthesis accessed by a custom language optimized for interactive artmaking, all wrapped up together like a hot little sports car.”
