OpenAI Releases GPT-4

In March, OpenAI achieved a major advancement in artificial intelligence functionality and adoption. GPT-4’s enhanced reasoning, creativity and problem-solving abilities surpassed its predecessors. The model’s prominence and entrance into the social and creative milieu were dizzying. The large language model handles tasks like composing complex texts, interpreting images and interactive dialogue, showcasing a significant leap in AI capabilities that could be applied towards creative ends. While predictive text isn’t new (Google Translate 2006, Siri 2011, etc), the sophistication jump from these early examples to GPT4 caught all non-AI researchers off guard. A technology that for decades—since perhaps the ’60s—was thought to be right around the corner, 5 years away, suddenly was actually here. ChatGPT, which GPT-4 was folded into, reached 100 million users in 2 months, beating platforms like Instagram and TikTok by significant margins. Not without its drawbacks or critics, the technology and its peers nonetheless will shape the future of content and art for the foreseeable future.
