Peer to Peer Presented by Buffalo AKG and Feral File

In November, Buffalo AKG and Casey Reas’s Feral File presented the online exhibition Peer to Peer. The show served as a promising indication of the growing overlap between art associated with blockchain technology and major contemporary art institutions. The show, curated by Dr. Tina Rivers Ryan—now at Artforum—featured thirteen new works from global artists, utilizing AI, 3D modeling and smart contracts to reimagine themes from the museum’s collection. As the first American museum survey of blockchain art, it highlighted the emerging role of museums in a decentralized art world. Proceeds from the exhibition support the museum’s new media art gallery and digital technology lab, with works remaining accessible through Feral File. The show featured work of LaTurbo Avedon, Mitchell F. Chan, Entangled Others, Simon Denny, Amir H. Fallah, Sarah Friend, Auriea Harvey, Rhea Myers, Osinachi, Casey Reas, Anne Spalter, Itzel Yard (Ix Shells) and Sarah Zucker. The following year, the exhibition would again be in the news as all 16 of the works were acquired as NFTs by Buffalo AKG’s Dr. Ryan.
