The break-out success of the 1987 show cemented the SIGGRAPH Art Show as “a major site for the exhibition of computer art and a place for the artist to gain new insight into current technical achievements in computer graphics,” according to Grand Taylor in When the Machine Made Art. This new interest in digital art was sparked by the increasing popularity of the personal computer. As argued in the last chapter, a major shift in human thinking occurred in the late ’70s as digital media first began entering people’s homes, beginning in earnest with the VHS player and Apple II.
