Despite legal action that delayed Tezos’s initial release by nearly a year, the chain officially launched on mainnet on September 17, 2018. The project was watched closely, as it had been one of the largest ICOs at the time. Tezos—now in the hands of its decentralized community—would spend the next 18 months steadily releasing updates and proving the viability of its consensus mechanism. It will reappear in the next decade—and chapter—in March 2020 when the first signs of creative life appear on the chain and, of course, one year later in March 2021 with the launch of Hic et Nunc.
