Generative art witnessed a significant community milestone with the launch of the Processing Forum, an online platform named Discourse. Announced on the Processing site in August 2002, it was where Casey Reas, Ben Fry and other early contributors began an explorative dialogue that would shape the future of this medium. A collaborative space, the forum fostered an environment of mutual support and creativity, propelling the exploration and knowledge-sharing of Processing. It has thus been critical to the nurturing of one of the most significant developments in generative art, especially since the turn of the millennium. The forum underwent several evolutions, transitioning from “alpha” 2005 to “1.0” in 2010 and beyond, each phase marking an expansion in the community and its contributions to the field. Today, the forum still exists as a place to share and elicit information about Processing.
