The Slade Centre for Electronic Media in Fine Art (SCEMFA) Opens

The Slade Centre for Electronic Media in Fine Art (SCEMFA) was opened. The history of the department extends back to 1973 when Malcolm Hughes founded the Experimental Department at the Slade. Thus, the legacy of Hughes’s groundbreaking department continues to this very day. The Centre’s goal was to unite artists and researchers at the Slade School of Fine Art. It became a hub for exploring digital materials, fostering research into Electronic Media and Fine Art. Over the years, SCEMFA has played a vital role in shaping national and international dialogues on digital art, hosting events like Collision and Spontaneous Reaction.
