With Traffic at Bordeaux’s CAPC Contemporary Museum, Nicolas Bourriaud introduced his concept of 'relational aesthetics,' art that serves as “a vehicle for creating encounters between the artist and the viewers, the latter of which is ideally involved as an active participant.” The exhibition matters for this timeline because it stands as an example of the digital’s concerns manifested in the mainstream art world. These concerns include interactivity, the removing distinctions between art and everyday life and an inclusive definition of what art can entail.
