Transmediale 2001: DIY (do it yourself!)

Transmediale, the Berlin festival-conference, was emblematic of the excitement globally for software and net-based art at the turn of the new millennium, as in 2001 it introduced an artistic software award. According to the event’s jury pastwebsites.transmediale.de, “To our knowledge, this is the first award given and solely dedicated to software art.” SIGGRAPH or Ars Electronica might have something to say about that claim, however.
The shortlisted works included pieces by Golan Levin and net.art pioneer Netochka Nezvanova.
