YCAM InterLab Camp vol.5: Homo Codens

A busy October for digital art ended with a small digital art event in Yamaguchi, Japan, showcasing how this 2024 was not restricted to Europe and the United States; this was a global movement. Held at the wonderful Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM), which was featured previously on this Timeline as a major moment in Japanese digital art history when the facility opened in 2003.
I was fortunate to be invited to speak at the event, organized by Shunsuke Takawo, called InterLab Camp vol.5: Homo Codens—How Will Humanity Draw in the AI Era? It was an intensive workshop that explored generative art, AI-assisted creativity and how coding as an expressive tool continues to expand. Participants came from all walks of life and participated in hands-on sessions, discussions and collaborative projects.
It showed the passionate roots of creative coding, where market forces and “floor prices” were the last things on anyone’s minds.
