Generative Art Timeline · Chapter 5: Artist-Programmer Era (1970s)
1977
Computergraphik by Lothar Limbeck

This master’s thesis, Computergrafik, Ein Lehr- und Lernbuch (“Computer graphics, a text and learning book”), was a survey of computer graphics. It also published in detail SNE (COMP) ART, one of the first art machines based on parameters. The code was significant as SNE ART became a way to enhance generative art’s accessibility. It was used to teach the field (using FORTRAN). Nearly 40 years later in 2013, Dietrich M. Scheringer would bring SNE ART to Processing, based on the original FORTRAN code.
