Contemporary scholarly work on AI is always welcome. Enter Gary Hall, a professor of media at Coventry University and co-founder of Open Humanities Press, who published Masked Media: What It Means to Be Human in the Age of Artificial Creative Intelligence in 2025. As the subtitle says, the book asks what human creativity and authorship mean once machines generate text and images, a question Hall had long pursued as an advocate of open access and experimental forms of scholarly publishing.
