Joaquín Torres-García Brings Geometric Abstraction to Latin America

After forty years abroad, the Uruguayan-SpanishTorres-García brought the ideas of geometric abstraction to Latin America in order to reconcile his affinity for the movement with the region’s own cultural traditions. His new style was known as Universalismo Constructivo (Constructive Universalism) and aimed to inject emotion and humanity into the austere aesthetics of De Stijl and Constructivism.
