Feng Mengbo’s My Private Album was a pioneering work of interactive CD-ROM art, examining the combination of digital storytelling and interactivity. The work provides viewers with a dynamic look at how families change and evolve over time, questioning the concept of our family as static. Feng’s work deviates from conventional linear narratives, allowing audiences to interact choose their own path also integrating the complex nature of memory. Feng captures the essence of human resilience and hope in his art, which transcends aestheticism through intimate reflections on the ordinary lives of people. Carefully and humbly put together, My Private Album elevates the commonplace to the extraordinary, offering a moving audiovisual record that is available to everyone. It’s a standout of mid-90s interactive CD-ROM art.
