Auriea Harvey and Michael Samyn (Entropy8Zuper!), skinonskinonskin, 1999. Rhizome, Net Art Anthology.

This pioneering work of Flash art and net.art by Auriea Harvey and Michaël Samyn, skinonskinonskin, was a collection of the pair’s digital love letters. Initially shared privately, the two turned the letters into interactive web pages—which included Flash animations, audio, text and images. They were later made available to paid subscribers as online artwork. The project typifies the decade-long rise of mass-media art, looking at the intersection of artistic collaboration and romantic connection in the digital age.

Harvey and Samyn’s shared practice, Entropy8Zuper!, merged their individual artistry, blurring the lines between their personal and professional lives. skinonskinonskin challenged traditional notions of the cold digital and how humans displayed intimacy, anticipating the Internet’s impact on romantic relationships and dating apps in the twenty-first century. The piece invited viewers to feel a touch that transcended physical space, symbolizing a profound connection through the internet’s newly laid wires.
