JPEG Standard Created

Similar to the MPEG standard released the same year, the JPEG 1 standard (ISO/IEC 10918) was developed in 1992 as part of an effort to reduce the standard image file size, a process that began in 1986. Though this standard is sometimes referred to as a single specification, it is really made up of four independent components and a combination of coding modes. It’s still in use to this day after a 1994 update.
