MPEG 1 standard introduced

The Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) approved the MPEG-1 standard in November 1992, published as ISO/IEC 11172 in 1993, marking a pivotal moment in the history of digital audio and video compression that various groups had been working on for several years. This comprehensive standard, organized into five parts, addressed the growing need for efficient encoding and decoding of multimedia content. MPEG aimed to create a reference standard to overcome technological barriers and ensure the success of digital audio and video.
