Merkle Trees Added to Blockchain

Stuart Haber, W. Scott Stornetta and Dave Bayer introduced Merkle trees, for which Ralph Merkle filed a patent in 1979, granted in 1982, to blockchain technology. This development increased their efficiency and allowed more than one document to be stored in each block.
