Leicester Polytechnic Is Formed

Leicester Polytechnic is designated in April 1969, formed by the merger of Leicester School of Art and Leicester Technical College. Stroud Cornock and Ernest Edmonds become influential figures in the international computer art scene, emphasizing the intersection of art and technology. The school’s impact can still be felt today with its legacy alive through the Computer Arts Society where Edmonds is still active. Throughout the decade of the ’70s until the mid-80s, Leicester Polytechnic (eventually the HCIRU Research Group) would attract some of the brightest minds interested in the intersection of art and technology, including Stephen Scrivener and then Dominic Boreham.
