One of the first works by artist duo Operator, On View captures the spirit of their practice, which uses digital tools to question—along with Lauren Lee McCarthy and Sougwen Chung—the most pressing issues facing humans and technology. Created by Operator’s Ania Catherine and Dejha Ti and commissioned by the SCAD Museum of Art, On View is an immersive experiential artwork that critiques modern society’s obsession with becoming the subject of art. The piece questions the implications of addictive interfaces, surveillance capitalism and data privacy. Utilizing TouchDesigner, real-time facial recognition, voice commands and environmental sensors, On View integrates advanced technology seamlessly into its physical spaces. This installation invites participants to critically engage with the digital architectures shaping our realities, emphasizing the need for tech literacy as technology becomes increasingly invisible.
