The New Landscape in Art and Science by György Kepes

A precursor to C. P. Snow’s “two cultures” thesis of 1959, The New Landscape in Art and Science was a book that attempted to combat the growing pessimism in the art world towards the mixing of art and science. Kepes, the prominent figure in the development of computer and digital art, explored the intersections between art, science and technology. He sought to focus on where science and art intersected, laying out ideas about visual perception, patterns and the relationship between art and nature. The publication was poorly received by his contemporaries yet, critically, it illustrated the growing rift between science and art.
