CODED FIELD by Rhizomatiks

This large-scale Rhizomatiks installation and dance performance, with technical and creative direction by Daito Manabe and choreography by MIKIKO, was held at the Tokyo FESTIVAL. Situated in Tokyo’s Shiba district, the project interweaves light and sound at the Daihonzan Zojoji Temple. There, architectural and topographical data were coded into a virtual space, which was then translated into dynamic light and sound emitted by balloon-shaped devices. Audience movements influenced these devices, creating an interactive experience. The work—like much in this decade—showcases many of the forebearers of digital art, including lumino-kinetic sculpture, participation and gernativity.
