Hermann Muthesius Inspired by visit to Great Britain

German architect Hermann Muthesius, posted to London from 1896, was influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement, including the latest developments in art and architecture. He brought ideas back to Germany, such as the importance of traditional craftsmanship, simplicity of design and the integration of art into everyday life. Muthesius would found the Deutscher Werkbund which had a major influence on Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus and Le Corbusier. This explains how the ideas of the Arts & Crafts movement via Muthesius would go on to shape our concepts of art, architecture and design to this day.
