MTV Goes Live

Music Television (MTV), the first 24-hour television station based on music videos, was launched on 1 August 1981, a seminal day in the history of digital creativity and storytelling. MTV’s popularization of music videos fostered a culture of dynamic, short-form visual expression. This cultural shift towards innovative visuals and rapid editing techniques would influence all digital expression, including digital generative art. By popularizing unconventional visual aesthetics and embracing experimental techniques, MTV helped shaped the digital aesthetic of the ’80s and sparked a mindset receptive to the video as an art form.
