While perhaps not 2021 levels, 2020—the COVID year—still saw an overwhelming burst of digital creativity. Prior to the rise of long-form generative art the following year, most of these 2020 works would be considered short-form—or artist-curated—projects. The work we regard now may change over time, with some essential works certainly left out here. Yet code-based standouts of 2020 include: • cllm by Manolo: One of Manolo Gamboa Naon’s most striking works and his first mint on SuperRare • Limbo by Rebecca Allen (One of the luminary’s only NFTs and a work that visualizes her career, investigating form and repetition.) • RGB-2 series by Casey Reas • I’d rather be in a dark silence than and Anthropocene by Operator • Anticlassic, Loxodography 2 2, Petal Loops and Elektroanima by Tyler Hobbs (The palettes and developing aesthetic of his upcoming QQL and Fidenza can be glimpsed from these pre-NFT collections.)
