This immersive, audiovisual exhibition was Fujimoto’s first solo show in North America, featuring over nine real-time, light-based installations powered by choreographed kinetic lasers, strobes, haze and moving lights. The work indicated a growing interest in immersive generative installations along with teamLab and Refik Anadol. The installations explored the universal connections between all living beings, revealing—as cybernetics did—the intricate and invisible systems that shape our reality. Set against a meditative soundscape inspired by the quiet of Shinto shrines, INTANGIBLE FORMS consists of hundreds of lasers algorithmically manipulated with the open-source toolkit openFrameworks to create the illusion of objects in space, harkening back to the roots of digital art—lumino-kinetic installation.
