The third iteration of a computer art exhibition at the annual SIGGRAPH conference’s Exhibition of Computer Art was its most successful yet, traveling to “over 30 locations throughout the U.S., Canada, France, Italy, and Japan” well into 1984.

Forty years on, the show was a progressive highlight for women in generative art, as the show’s committee and jury were overwhelmingly women. The exhibition also highlighted the breadth of computer-based practices at the time. A SIGGRAPH overview of the show states that the “artist’s work should transcend technique, realize the full potential of the chosen medium, and reflect a consistency in their overall body of work.”
