1994
First do it Exhibition Takes Place

This open exhibition premiered in 1994 at the Ritter Kunsthalle in Klagenfurt after its conceptual roots were laid the previous year. Begun by Hans Ulrich Obrist with Christian Boltanski and Bertrand Lavier, the first do it featured instruction-based work by artists such as Mike Kelley, Alison Knowles, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Jean-Jacques Rullier and Bertrand Lavier. The exhibitions were meant to encourage audience participation and interaction.
