Generative Art Timeline · Chapter 4: Digital Era (1960s)
1965
nul 1965, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

As Gutai gained fame in Europe, Jiro Yoshihara, accompanied by his son Michio, was invited to exhibit in Amsterdam. Only three-dimensional and new works were allowed with no paintings. Yoshihara presented nine previously well-received pieces and two new ones by Michio, impressing the audience and solidifying Gutai’s reputation outside of Japan as an exceptional avant-garde art group. This exhibition also featured new European avant-garde groups that had been inspired by the radical ideas of Gutai, including Nul and ZERO.
