This large-scale immersive audiovisual installation marked Anadol’s first major installation in New York City, and extended the machine learning practice he had begun with Archive Dreaming in 2017. Using machine learning algorithms on a vast dataset of over 100 million architectural images of New York City, Anadol created a cinematic data universe. The experience revealed the city’s collective memories and AI’s ability to re-imagine, blending architecture with perceptions of time and space. The installation offered a glimpse into the future of AI-enhanced immersive installations for which Anadol is now known after 2022’s Unsupervised at MoMA.
